Tsinghua University and the State Grid Corporation Signed Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement
On the afternoon of December 28,2016, the signing ceremony of strategic cooperation framework agreement between Tsinghua University and the State Grid Corporation was held in the headquarters building of the State Grid Corporation. Shu Yinbiao, president of the State Grid Corporation and secretary of Party Committee of the State Grid Corporation, Kou Wei, general manager of the State Grid Corporation, Li Ruge, chief accountant of the State Grid Corporation, Qiu Yong, principal of Tsinghua University, Xue Qikun, vice principal of Tsinghua University, Lu Qiang, member of Chinese Academy of Sciences and other representatives attended the ceremony.
Xue Qikun and Li Ruge ,on behalf of the school and enterprise respectively, signed Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement between Tsinghua University and the State Grid Corporation. According to the agreement, the two sides will obey the principle of ‘Advantages Sharing, Commonly Developing, Emphasis Highlighting and Effect Focusing’. Tsinghua University will take full advantage of basic research on multiple subjects and intensive talents. At the same time, the State Grid Corporation will take full advantage of industry leading and engineering practice. The two sides will set up ‘State Grid Corporation-Tsinghua University Joint Research Center’. Through Strengthening the cooperation in the field of scientific and technological research, personnel training, management, financial innovation and so on, the center aims at promoting the independent innovation ability and core competitiveness of the State Grid Corporation, promoting the discipline development and achievement transformation of Tsinghua University, promoting the common development of both sides and innovating the strategic cooperation model between school and enterprise.
According to the speech of Shu Yinbiao, the State Grid Corporation, which takes the construction and operation of power grid as its core business, is a large state-owned key enterprise relating to national economy lifeline and national energy security and it also is the largest utility company in the world. The State Grid Corporation ranked second in the world top 500 enterprises in 2016. The State Grid Corporation focuses on innovation-driven, and it owns 18 national laboratories and has won 60 National Science and Technology Awards so far. (1 Grand Award, 7 First Awards ) In the period of ‘Twelfth Five-Year Plan’, the State Grid Corporation spent 34.64 billion yuan on the technical research. The State Grid Corporation has been actively carried out internationalization strategy and has successfully invested 7 backbone energy network of countries and regions. Foreign investment adds up to more than 10 billion US dollars, and all projects are profitable. The outstanding graduates from Tsinghua University are the backbones of the State Grid Corporation and have made excellent contributions to the development of the company. Now the State Grid Corporation and Tsinghua University will strengthen the depth of strategic cooperation, which is a win-win situation in enhancing the independent innovation capability and core competitiveness and taking responsibility for the whole industry.
According to the speech of Qiu Yong, the strategic cooperation framework agreement signed in the end-year highlighted the extraordinary cooperation base and strong cooperation aspiration between Tsinghua University and the State Grid Corporation. The most proud ‘products’ of Tsinghua University are the excellent graduates, and Tsinghua University has been transported talents to the State Grid Corporation. From 2012 to 2016, a total of 421 graduates chose to work in the State Grid Corporation. As a result, the State Grid Corporation is the largest state-owned enterprise to employ the Tsinghua graduates in recent years. The State Grid Corporation established ‘State Grid Excellence Innovation Fund’ in 2011 in Tsinghua University, and set up ‘Ultra-High Voltage Scholarship’ in 2014. The long-term support of the State Grid Corporation has made excellent contributions to personnel training and development of electrical engineering in Tsinghua University. Tsinghua University has put forward the concept of ‘More Innovative, More International, More Humane’, which is consistent with the development strategy of the State Grid Corporation. Through the signing of this agreement, we hope that the two sides will establish a long-term stable strategic cooperative relationship, take full use of their respective advantages and make positive contributions to improving China's energy security level for economic and social development.
Before the ceremony, Qiu Yong and other participants also visited the State Electric Power Dispatching Control Center, and the persons in charge of the relevant department introduced the recent development of China's power industry.
