Launch Meeting of Key Special Projects 1.1 of National key Research and Development Program "Smart Grid Technology and Equipment" was Successfully Held

On October 10, 2016, launch meeting of project 1.1 "basic theory for planning and operation of power system with high proportion renewable energy" of the key special project of the national key research and development program "smart grid technology and equipment” was held in Shenzhen Hotel in Beijing. The project is led by Chinese Electric Power Research Institute, with the project leader Professor Kang Chongqing from Department of Electrical Engineering of Tsinghua University and its undertakers consist of 15 universities including Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Tianjin University and three research institutes including Chinese Electric Power Research Institute , State Grid Research Institute, the State Grid Energy Institutes.

Director of Industry Development and Promotion Center of MIIT, Liu Yingjun, director of Ministry of Science and Technology of State Grid Corporation, Xiu Jian, president of Chinese Electric Power Research Institute, Guo Jianbo academician, group leader of project responsibility experts and head of Institute of Electrical Engineering of Chinese Academy of Sciences Professor Xiao Liye and responsible expert Professor Wang Chengshan form Tianjin University attended the meeting. Over 60 key researchers from the 18 participating organization attended the meeting, which was presided over by Professor Yao Liangzhong, vice president of Chinese Electric Power Research Institute.

 On behalf of Chinese Electric Power Research Institute, Academician Guo Jianbo gave the welcoming speech, and expounded several issues on planning and operational aspects of power system brought by high proportion renewable energy connected to the power grid. He placed great hopes on the results of the project and stressed that the project, as a National priority, must detect and concise some key issues, and reflect the actual value of the results. Director of Industry Development and Promotion Center of MIIT, Liu Yingjun introduced the relevant provisions of MIIT on the project management and results, which requires to apply the "milestone" type of management to ensure the smooth implementation of the project. Director Xiu Jian, put forward the objectives and requirements of State Grid Corporation of Ministry of Science and Technology for management and implementation of the national project. Professor Xiao Liye of the project responsibility expert group and other experts put forward the requirements and hope for the project research, pointed out that the project should analyze the key scientific issues, and strive to make significant results that are recognized domestically and internationally, and expected this project highlights the characteristics of Chinese power grid in the modeling, simulation and example verification, to make the results of the project provide strong support for the settlement of practical problems in China.

The project leader Professor Kang Chongqing from Tsinghua University made the report on the project's main research content, key scientific issues and research methods, expected results and other aspects; Director of Chinese Electric Power Research Institute of Science and Technology, Guo Jian, on behalf of the State Grid Corporation introduced the project management system and methods, and explicated the responsibilities of various units.

 Project Leader, Professor Kang Chongqing from Department of Electrical Engineering of Tsinghua University, hosted the seminar in the afternoon. The five project leaders of the project, Lu Zongxiang from Tsinghua University, Cheng Haozhong from Shanghai Jiaotong University, Xiao Jun from Tianjin University, Hu Jia Bing from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Yao Liangzhong and its representatives from China Electric Power Research Institute, made a detailed report on the technical content and implementation programs of the subject respectively. Peer experts present had a heated discussion and made constructive comments and suggestions on the contents of the report.

After the enthusiastic discussion between the participating units, the meeting finally formed a broad consensus on the key time points and the follow-up route of the project. The smooth convening of the meeting marked the project "basic theory for planning and operation of high proportion renewable energy and power grid system" was officially launched.  

The meeting also invited the representatives of the science and technology publishing industry, and other relevant representatives of science press, China Electric Power Research Institute journal center, the State Grid Power Grid Journal Center, power automation equipment magazine.
